In 1891 an industrious Vicksburg businessman, Joseph A. Biedenharn, bottled the first run of a widely popular new fountain drink called Coca Cola. Using a bottle of his own design, the precursor to the iconic hobble-skirt design that came later, Biedenharn set in motion the first steps of a truly iconic brand. Following Biederharn’s lead, three entrepreneurs from Chattanooga officially licensed, bottled, and distributed Coca-Cola in 1899. Just a decade later, there were over 400 companies operating bottling plants across the country. Most of these businesses were family owned.
Around the turn of the century, James E. Crass moved his Coca-Cola bottling from a small plant in Charleston, South Carolina to Richmond, Virginia. The business quickly grew and eventually expanded to 42 franchises across the Mid-Atlantic. In 1953, Architect Joseph J. Schlesser designed the Mid Atlantic Coca Cola Bottling building. It quickly became of the most prominent and significant buildings in the industrial neighborhood of Scott’s Addition. The modern-style four story brick building also included a garage designed by Richmond architect C. W. Huff in the 40s and another three-story, one-bay, addition from the 60s. A striking piece of architectural work, the structure was as functional as it is beautiful.
The Preserve at Scott’s Addition is the joining of two buildings built decades apart — a true mix of historic architecture and modern design. The Found Building is the complete renovation of the historic Coca Cola Building. These top line apartments retain all of their historic charm while providing residents with access to today’s modern comforts. For example, some units have the original railroad track running through the living room. Yeah, that’s pretty awesome.
Phase 2 is our Made Building is brand new construction built with pride. These apartments all have unique floor plans, great views and a contemporary tone and feel. Take a walk out onto the rooftop deck and check both sections out. No matter where you chose to make your home, you’ll have full access to the some of the best amenities in the city: a saltwater pool and outdoor patio space, rooftop deck, fitness center, club room, business lounge and social club with resident events.
Favorite Floor Plan: The Billy Davis. This loft apartment is a real standout. Unique in so many ways.
Sure, we have an incredible building but one of the best things about The Preserve is our staff. Knowledgeable, experienced, friendly, fun, and attentive our team is here to help you.
Whether it’s finding an apartment, tracking down the best slice of pizza in town, or trying to figure out what’s happening around town this weekend, our staff has got you covered. Feel free to contact these professionals about any questions or concerns that you have.
I was the third person to move into this community and just moved out (got a house). I’ve lived in 10 different places in the last 13 years and the Preserve was the absolute best. When I moved in, there was only the train building, and the other two weren’t even close to being finished. The facilities are way nicer than anything I saw when I was shopping in late 2014 and the property management staff (Sarah and Krystina) are the most attentive and thoughtful ones I’ve ever come across in my property manager experiences. Both are very professional and actually care about their residents and the experience they have. I see someone mentioned the mold issue– it happened in my apartment and the staff was quick to remediate– I think you’ll find if you’re willing to work with them, they’re willing to work with you.
They do a great job of promoting community events and it’s a great place to meet new people, not to mention located in a great spot and super convenient to the highways. I hope the future residents enjoy The Preserve as much as I did.
If you’re looking for an apartment with a friendly leasing office that cares about you after signing the lease, this really is the place. My fiance and I have lived here for 2 years and love it. Parking in the lot can be tight at times, but if you don’t have a reserved parking spot, there is always street parking relatively close if not right in front of the building. It has never been an issue for us. Overall, it’s a great community with lots of fun activities to get to know your neighbors!
I absolutely love living here! I have not a single complaint only wonderful things to say about the Preserve. The ladies in the leasing office are incredible and the maintenance men are quick to fix any issue you may have. I have lived in several different apartment complexes and not one comes close to The Preserve. If you are looking for a great place to live this is it!
